Buy My Face: face it, it's brilliant!
Two university graduates attempt to crack the current job climate by selling advertising space on their faces.
The situation is bleak:
- This year, graduate unemployment is at its highest for over a decade (since 1995) – shown by Office for National Statistics data.
- One in 5 UK university leavers failed to find a job last year.
Faced with the most difficult graduate job market in decades, two recent Cambridge graduates are taking a less conventional approach to earning a living. Armed only with massive student debt and a firm grasp of the principles of viral advertising, Ross Harper and Ed Moyse shall attempt to survive for a year solely on income generated by transforming themselves into walking advertisements.
For 366 days, starting 1st October, 2011, Ross and Ed will be painting their faces with a host of different logos, and wearing them all day for the whole world to see. Through BuyMyFace.com, any individual, company or group can purchase “face-ad” time, upload an image, and have it painted onto the faces of Ross and Ed for the whole Internet to see. But the action doesn't stop with just one website. The pair are hitting cyberspace hard through the social media, and will be spending their time traveling up and down the country attending rallies, festivals, protests, live TV recordings or wherever they need to go to get their faces (and whatever is emblazoned upon them) out there.
It's bizarre, yes. But it just might work.
