Old Streetonians RFC (AKA, ‘The Onions’ ‘Street' and many other titles beside) are a friendly and expanding club, based in Central-East London. With 3 regular adult teams and an occasional fourth side, we boast an excellent pub in Hoxton and brand new facilities at our home ground on Hackney Marshes. We have recently celebrated 20 years of rugby in Shoreditch, and were London 3 league champions in 2009/10, gaining promotion in 3 successive seasons. Where are we now? Our 1st XV play in London 2 (North East) league, the 7th level of English rugby. Having consolidated our position at this level, we hope to succeed over the coming years at a level that we can remain a close-knit, friendly but progressive club. Street's 2nd and 3rd XVs play very competitively in the Middlesex Merit Tables and are developing every season and the 4th XV play social rugby offering something for all abilities Home matches are played on three fantastic pitches on Hackney Marshes in the shadow of the Olympic Park with all new amazing facilities. http://www.hackney.gov.uk/hackney-marshes-improvements.htm Training takes place twice weekly Tuesday and Thursday under floodlights on the fabulous new all weather astro surface in Haggerston Park just 10 minutes from the city- see the Locations page for details. Admittedly, we were a little worried when Old Streetonians rugby club bought our faces… would we be asked to play a game?  Sure, we both dabbled with rugby at school, but playing against fully grown men* was a different ball game altogether.  Visions of bone-breaking tackles flashed right before my eyes:

Were we about to become pate?  Fortunately the answer was “no”… a great relief for us, our parents, and the groundskeeper (who would have had to clear up the mess).  Instead, we were kindly sent Twickenham tickets to see the London Wasps vs. the Harlequins and the London Irish vs. the Saracens – thanks Old Streetonians RFC!

The crowds were very friendly, the games were exciting, and we had a jolly good time indeed.  Being the first game we’d ever seen at Twickenham, we embraced the occasion…

... everyone else seems much more relaxed!

perhaps we got a little too into it...
